Preadmission Testing
The first step in the Admissions Procedure is to register for the preadmission test. Please call the School at 919-470-7348. School hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
A fee of $25.00 is charged for the preadmission test, which is paid on the day of testing. Watts School of Nursing accepts payment in the form of exact cash, certified check or money order (no personal checks).
On the day of testing, arrive fifteen (15) minutes prior to the start time of the test and park in the spots that have a “WS”. To enter the building, use the front entrance. Once testing has begun, late arrivals will not be allowed to test.
The test used is the PSB-Registered Nursing School Aptitude Examination. It is a high school level test that measures abilities, skills, and knowledge important for success in nursing school. The two tests are:
1. Academic Aptitude (verbal, arithmetic, non-verbal)
2. Reading Comprehension
The total time required for testing is approximately one hour. Sample test questions and answers along with test taking tips are available at
www.psbtests.com. Please click on Student Applicant: Resources for Test Taking.
In addition, there is a book,
Master the Nursing School and Allied Health Entrance Exams (18th ed.), written by Marion F. Gooding, which may help in preparing for the preadmission test. This book is available for purchase at local bookstores.
To receive reasonable accommodations for the preadmission test, contact the Coordinator of Student Affairs prior to registering for the test. Receiving accommodations at the high school level or at another college/university does not mean that Watts School of Nursing will agree to provide the same accommodations received at the other educational institution.
